Prof. Ofra Benny, of the School of Pharmacy is dedicated to revolutionizing cancer treatment through the development of novel therapies and advanced drug-delivery systems. The cutting-edge research coming out of her lab is centered around nanotechnology and functional biomaterials, allowing for the creation of targeted nano-therapies with enhanced drug efficacy and minimal off-target effects. By combining bioengineering, nanomedicine, and theoretical models, Prof. Benny gains valuable insights into key processes within the tumor microenvironment. Through this integrative approach, the lab can rationally design selective nano-therapies that hold great promise for the future of cancer treatment. One of our primary focuses is on the development of advanced 3D ex vivo cell models, specifically for tumor-on-a-chip. This innovative setup enables us to study the activity and toxicity of anti-cancer drugs and nano-therapies, paving the way for personalized nanomedicine approaches.
